Basics of Teeth Whitening
Are your teeth as white as you would like them to be? Or are they yellow and darkened? A pretty smile is the first sign of a healthy smile, and it would be a shame to be too embarrassed to show it off. Fortunately, there is a simple solution to stained and discolored teeth – teeth whitening treatment. There are many different types of teeth whitening treatments, but the following is a basic outline of the process.
First, your dentist will talk to you about your goals. How white would you like your teeth to get? After answering some questions such as this, they will be able to know what method will work best for you. For example, many prefer the Zoom whitening system.
Next your lips and gums will be guarded with a rubber device in order to protect them from any harmful materials. Your dentist will then apply a liquid or gel on to the teeth. This material is activated by a special light or laser. It will be left on for a certain period of time to allow it to affect the teeth. Some types of treatments will repeat this several times in order to achieve the full effect. The material will then be cleaned off. You will be able to see the results right away. Some treatments offer results up to eight shades brighter within just one appointment.
In order to keep your results for as long as possible, be sure to maintain your daily dental hygiene routine, and avoid staining foods, such as hard candies and soda.
